Title: How we can help end this pandemic

There is actually something we can all do to help end this pandemic so y'all can go back to doing whatever you were doing before the player count doubled because of the various lockdowns and school closures around the world because of this virus. It was actually something we had a community competition for before a very long time ago. Folding at home. Look at the project my PC is contributing to:

Just download, install and run this:

Then you can feel like you're actually doing something to help which is more important than the computations because it will positively influence your health and the collective consciousness.

Also you can join the old CIT team that was set-up back when we first had the competition. When folding at home is running, right click on it's icon at the bottom right of your screen, click "advanced control", click "configure" at the top right, click the "identity" tab, you can put a name (which shows up here (https://stats.foldingathome.org/team/224321)) and in team box put: 224321 then click save.

Note that as so many people have started running folding at home that it might take a while to even get an assignment and also the assignment you get might not be COVID-19 related due to there being not enough assignments created yet for it.

Then you'd better save a copy of the current top folders to see whose actually doing it new instead of from the old competition I did years ago. Good information! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: I've already put the program to work. It would be nice if a translated copy in several languages was added, and that it has sticky in the subforums of each language.
(Maybe this last one doesn't make sense ... but it would make it possible to reach more people)

Folding@Home? What is it?

Folding@Home is a protein simulation platform that runs a simulation on Scientific researches for people around the world.   • Boosting Scientific discoveries and making our population ready to deal with situations that are similar to the current one, where need for fast response on medicine to deal with the pandemic becomes more important day after day.
  • Saving our planet: On average a normal computer user consumes 15 to 45% of the capacity of his CPU, GPU and other components on a daily basis. This number is even more flagrant on worldwide hosting services or data centers as some of them have systems running at below 10% of there capacity and sitting Idle. The consumption of electricity and power created by those devices is equivalent to some of the biggest factories in the world. And those devices can't be shut down or used more efficiently as they would affect other devices that are working in parallel. Maximizing Utilisation means that nothing is going to waste.

What do I do?

Step By Step Ways to install the software:

  • Go to the Folding@Home Website by clicking here (https://foldingathome.org/start-folding/)
  • After Downloading the software a webpage will open and you will be able to set your name and team: Set your name CIT_PublicName and Team to "CIT on MTA"
  • It is done you wait within the hour you will get a task.

You can use the same name, it works on hundreds of devices based on the devs.

Ok another question , sorry for being a big noob about this.

On my dekstop computer , when I installed it , it started using CPU and my GPU is idle , but on my laptop the CPU is idle and GPU is being used , why is that? does it randomly choose , or does it choose according to which is best between CPU and GPU for a certain device?

EDIT : Ok now both CPU and GPU are on progress on my laptop , but on my PC only the CPU is on progress , I got COVID-19 research on both devices and I didn't edit any settings in either of them.

It will pick a random project not especially Corona, any project you get will be count for CIT's total.

Only when downloading the assignment, then it will upload the results of calculations no idea if that's only when the assignment is complete or how big the upload is.

I just realised that you can view the project your GPU is doing by clicking on the bit that shows your GPU name as by default you get what the CPU is working on. My CPU is working on some weird "microorganism found in the extremely cold and hypersaline Deep Lake, Antarctica" but GPU is on a "coronavirus project".

From my experiences the WUs are between 1-20 MiB download and upload.

Ok one more question , my PC has good specs and it can handle hours of this running , but my laptop is for gaming but it's still a laptop (you know how they overheat from gaming) , my question is , will it harm my laptop if I run this on it for a long time? like overheating from games or anything of the sort? can it handle hours of it running none stop?

As long as the CPU doesn't overheat and reaches 100 Celcius you are ok, even if the CPU is at a 100%

I closed software. That page keeps refreshing by itself without showing me anything. That makes me mad. I will open it tomorrow. Sleep time.

Yes, turning off you computer will stop the progress. However it will just pause it so you can continue from where you left off once you turn on your computer again.

So basically today I install the program but I can't see any progress. I started Microsoft edge and Google chrome neither of them works. Any idea?

There doesn't seem to be any assignments that need doing because so many new people started using this program and they have to create these assignments which I guess takes time.

I currently have an assignment on my laptop , nothing on my PC though , but they keep giving me from time to time , yesterday at night I had nothing , today when I woke up I found that they already gave me one.
