Impersonation Prevention
« on: 18 02, 2014, 09:01:11 pm »
Certain people would have access to a GUI, similar in looks to /teamassign. In the GUI you would input: "Group Name" and "Tag" (With support for multiple tags). If a person would, for example, change name to include the [SAPD] tag while not being in the SAPD group, he would be kicked from the server. To prevent trolling, have the tag automatically removed if you are kicked from the group.

At the moment, the idea is to have the privilege for semi-official groups.

This suggestion may be short but I really don't know any other ways to describe it.

Maybe it would be possible even to add tags when a player joins/gets promoted/gets kicked based on rank automatically, would make tags and tag protection fully automatic for semi-official groups+.

[SAPD] is not the only way to impersonate a group.

the "server-kick" script should include, if you use (SAPD) |SAPD| or any other punctuation characters at the end or at the beginning of the group tag.

I saw even players got jailed for impersonation who were named: SWATrandomname as example.

For example: A player who is named like frantf should not get jailed for impersonation TF but if he use a name like: (TF)Fran should be jailed for it.
then again he should be jailed if he use a name like SWATrandomname because he obvious tries to impersonate SWAT.

Well when they add the tag they should have like a warning say

"You have 15 seconds to changed your tag or you'll be kicked out the server"

+1 on this idea

yes because some people forget to change his name before enter the server and they got kick/jail fast I think need to warn them first

You guys do realize that instead of this warning non sense you are talking about and kicking someone, the server can easily just change the players username by itself? Duh..

Then this would most probably be a task for admins to handle. We could put a few obvious ones like for example [FBI] and |FBI| but other kind of impersonations would have to be handled by staff.

Also to the others that were discussing it,

- the kick would have a prominent reason to the offender to actually change his tags before reconnecting to prevent being kicked again.

- kicking the player is better than the server changing name because it actually reduces server stress by having one less player and the fact that an auto name change resource was never used in the case.

And what about groups who like to give tags for another players, for example
we are [GG] give allies our tags and vice versa, so what about adding a new section to F6 like settnigs
and there is (Allow Alliance groups to use my group tag) and this be able to leaders/founder
we can make it for a certain player like /groupwhitelist, add his account then he'll be able to use our tags

alright xb0x, and what do you think if:
1- Instead of a kick from the server, why just don't rename the player? For example, if you're not on SAPD group and you change your tag to Name[SAPD], then, the script will rename you to Name[], by removing the name from the tag.
The script can be connected between /stats group name and player nametag.

Moved this here because it helps prevent impersonation punishments + people seem to like it, based on vote count
