Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a popular form of real-time Internet text messaging (chat) or synchronous conferencing. It is mainly designed for group communication in discussion forums, called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication via private message as well as chat and data transfer (including file sharing).
So that is basically the definition of what is IRC. I've seen a lot of people asking how to join the IRC client.
First of all, you need an IRC client, I personally use the mIRC client, and I recommend it. I will explain this tutorial as if you were using the mIRC client. So, well, after you have downloaded it, a small window will appear, asking for your name, and your alternative name. Fill those lines, and then look to the left, where you can choose between Servers, options, Identd, etc. Choose "servers" and follow the following steps.
1.- Click on the "Add" button
2.- Proceed to fill the lines
- Description: Can be any description, just type GTASA
- IRC Server: This is where you are going to type the irc server to connect to CIT. Type "irc.cit.gg"
- Ports: Just let it that way (6667)
- Group: Can be any name, just type "CIT"
- Password: Our IRC server has no password, so just leave it blank
3.- Click on "Add"
4.- Now take a look to the "IRC Servers" list and search for the folder that should be named "GTASA", open it and choose where it says "CIT"
5.- Click on "CIT" and proceed to click on the "Select" button, which you can find to the right.
6.- Proceed to click on the "Connect" button.
If you did these steps, a small window should appear saying
* Connecting to irc.cit.gg (6667)

And a lot of words after that... Then after that, right on that window, write this: /join #CIT
The command /join is the most used, used to join any channel that is created
So there you are, you are on the official CIT IRC channel. You can ask there for other channel names, such as "Support", "Echo", etc.
Make sure that after you've joined, you register right instantly, using the command:
/msg NickServ REGISTER < password > < email>. There change "<password> and <email>" for a password and your email, without using "<" or ">". After you've done that, you are already registered, but it is possible that every time you log in on the IRC server you need to identify yourself using /identify yourpasswordhere
And if you are lazy to write /join #channelname every time you open IRC, then just go to Favorites>Organize favorites>Add, then there write the channel name, like #CIT and click on "Join on connect" and then click on add. This is used so every time you open your IRC client it automatically connects to the IRC server and the channel.
Another way to join IRC is the recently added web IRC feature. Join the cit.gg homepage, and then click on the left side of the screen the option Web IRC. Write down your name, and then just click on join. You will be automatically redirected to the main IRC channels.

Well, I know an easier way, when that appears I put the option "RESGISTER", then close the window and mIRC. Open it again, press "Continue" and the "Exit" option isn't anymore, instead is the "Continue" option.

If your on mIRC and you are connected and everything (remember you should be connected to the port: irc.cit.gg), then where it said: Join with a box type, CIT hit join and once you are in you should see a player list if there is a player list with quiet some people inside then correct if not and no one inside your on the wrong one. Once in #CIT chat type either in console of IRC or main chat of #CIT: /join #SAPD then you should be able to join the #SAPD chat! ;) Need anymore help someone else should post because I think I forgot how to set it up myself :P

There is no #support channel. You go on to the normal one where you see people's main chat message and support message and then there is a green message, that's the support. That's from support IG. and you type !d [your message].

Do you have to pay to register? ??? Because on www.mirc.com (http://www.mirc.com) , it has a button that says "Register mIRC" and you have to pay US#20.00. But here in the TUT, it also say to register, but I don't know if that's for free or not. Or just do that if it's totally free and no trial version. Also, can you delete your IRC account?

Whenever I try to get IRC, after a certain amount of days I can't log into it any more. It says that my trial period expired, then I have to uninstall it.

Dude use !d <text> to talk. Example: !d hello !
It shows the message on the #Echo (support channel).
You can't chat with it on the main echo or another chatroom, only on #Echo.

- Make sure you have the latest version of mIRC
- Check if your firewall settings are blocking the connection within mIRC, if it is allow it and check.
- Make sure you have the right connection info
I had a firewall setting that prevented me from using it & I allowed it which then let me connect to the server.

This is a major problem for me... I think my IP is blocked from IRC. The only way I can get on IRC is if u use the Web IRC link on the forum homepage. but even that is shit... I mostly use my phone (Galaxy S2) . I installe AndChat which is a IRC client. When I try connecting to irc.cit.gg, with port 6667. connection times out and tries to reconnect a million times. I installed another 1. SimpleIRC. Same thing happens. Now I went back on the computer.. I cant install any programs because im using the guest account on the computer. So I go on some web clients for IRC. I try connecting to irc.cit.gg ....... Same thing happens... connection times out.. One of them told me "Cannot connect to irc.cit.gg. User has been permanently banned ((No Reason))" ... I dont know If my IP is banned from IRC I just dont Know I need live help. But All who I ask just tells me to read the guides like im a fking idiot.

Yes you can. Just use xchat. It remembers you when you log in, automatically.
You can do stuffs like this, just I am recommending xchat. It does everything easily.

he don't have to use a certain IRC client he can use every client but he will have to enter a script and thats easy not a hard thing

this is a full script I made that let you choose you'r nick when u connect and then identify then join the channels that u want :)
and ofc replace <your password> with you'r real PW and <chan> to the channels that u want.

no Only staff members can go to #main-echo and make that
but u can get +voice in #echo and help in the /support chat
but to get the +voice you need to be very helpfull in the IG /support and JCM on forum

Well, as far as I know there's no, but you can connect to CIT via "Web IRC" on the Portal. Web IRC (http://cit.gg/index.php?page=webirc)

IRCCloud. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. Catch is, you need a current IRCCloud user to invite you to the service. It's free though.

There are alot of other IRC applications like HexChat that Rusty posted or there is a web IRC and This it's link. (http://cit.gg/index.php?page=webirc) there is also xchat (http://xchat.org/windows/) soo, there are alot of IRC applications you can also use Google to find more IRC apps.
Personally I open IRC most of the time on my smartphone (useing AndChat) and rarely open it on the pc/laptop and when I open it on them I use the Web IRC (http://cit.gg/index.php?page=webirc) .

Another way to join IRC is the recently added web IRC feature. Join the cit.gg homepage, and then click on the left side of the screen the option Web IRC. Write down your name, and the just click on join. You will be automatically redirected to the main IRC channels.

We all need IRC. The problem is that most of people misuse their voice, if not, then they forget it after one week or so. Thus, it should only be given to Staff/Honorables/Supporters.

@xMan. You can change your password when identified, but if you forgot it then you can't identify and change it then. Your registered name will get deleted in 92 / 180 days of your last time you identified for inactivity, not sure about the number of days tho. So you can only register a new nick till then.

mIRC's trial period has ended, I cannot afford to buy one or something.
HexChat doesn't work, Xchat doesn't work aswell, IceChat doesn't work aswell.

Eh, something wrong with my IRC registration, always fail in registering.
Each time I register my name, it opens a new tab including my name and some details about me.
Then when trying to reconnect, it says that my name isn't registered also the same occurs when typing /identify password.
Any solutions ?

Open your IRC program from desktop/Android.
Type adress of CIT's IRC server : irc.cit.gg port:6667
When you do that you will be re-directed to something like "main menu" of CIT'S IRC server.
Before you log in, on panel where you typing servers IP you will have a box with user details, there you need to write nick you will use on that server.
To register you need to use proper commands so you can communicate with IRC's "bot".
To register use this command: /NickServ register password email
So If I entered CIT's IRC with name "Shomy", when I enter "main menu" of the server I will type in the box
/NickServ register randompass [email protected]
If you got connection problems, or crash just wait 2-3 minutes to log in with same nick.(do /identify yourpassword)
If you are not registered you are not able to have op, halfop or voice status in the whole server.

How are you writing the command
The issue was, I thought that 'NickServ' stands for my nickname so I replaced it with 'Akrso'
But by reading Shomy's steps, I realized that it shouldn't be changed.
To register use this command: /NickServ register password email
So If I entered CIT's IRC with name "Shomy", when I enter "main menu" of the server I will type in the box
/NickServ register randompass [email protected]
