Mark Nearest Points of Interest
« on: 23 05, 2022, 03:31:15 pm »
Overview
`
If you have played GTA:V, you'll notice that the interaction menu has an option to mark the nearest POI (Point of Interest) quickly:
Show content
`
`
Such a feature would come in handy in a heap of situations, most notably when you're not familiar with the area you're currently in. You want to quickly shoot a Pay n Spray for a quick repair, instead of having to roam around until one pops up in your minimap to follow, or looking in F11 around you and mark where you want to go.

Status Quo
`
Currently, the /gps command shows a list of categorized, pre-defined locations that are static, meaning they always point to the same location when enabled.
Currently, the /gps command can accept a shortcut parameter (i.e. /gps lspd) to quickly GPS a predefined location for navigation. These shortcuts can be found in /gps GUI, the second column called (Shortcut)

Problem
`
If we consider a scenario where you're not familiar with the area you're in while working as a Taxi Driver, your taxi is damaged and you want to quickly shoot a Pay N Spray shop for a repair so you can continue working. Using the current solution, you'd want to open the /gps GUI, click on the current area/town you're in, then double click your POI to mark it. Notice that I couldn't find some POIs in /gps (i.e. Temple PNS)
Alternatively, you could just open F11 and look around in your area for whatever POI you want to mark it.

Solution
`
The proposed solution is to add a new category for the /gps GUI called "Nearest" or "Nearest Locations" that lists the famous POIs that players might want to quickly go to during gameplay. These locations are different from the current locations in which they are dynamic; upon activating one of them the nearest POI of the type chosen will be marked instead of a pre-defined one. Some of which can be:
  • Pay N Spray (Shortcut: pns)
  • Gas Station (Shortcut: gas)
  • Mod Shop (Shortcut: mod)
  • Restaurant (Shortcut: restaurant)
  • Car Shop (Shortcut: cars)
  • Aircrafts Shop (Shortcut: aircrafts/planes)
  • Boat Shop (Shortcut: boats)

Pros & Cons
`
The point worth mentioning is the complexity and time capacity required to determine the nearest POI from the player's location. But on the other hand, it'll produce a very nifty quality of life feature to quickly GPS famous points of interest around you from wherever your location is at the time of marking.

this in gta v is very useful, so why wouldn't it be here in MTA? besides that it is a very detailed suggestion, it even gives the pros and cons, really the cons can be difficult but it is worth adding this. Positive  :tick:

Isn't this what "Blip distance" is made for? Display nearest blips into your radar map..

- If you type '/gps pns' '/gps mods' or '/gps gas', you will activate quick GPS to the nearest Pay 'n' Spray, vehicle modshop and fuel station respectively. (Danzy + BabY)

I've only added Pay n spray, mod shops and gas stations as these are undoubtedly the most used.
Restaurants can be found at every corner, also players can sell you food.
Vehicle shops are also quite common sense, car shops hold every vehicle (except trucks), you can only buy airplanes at airports, and boats at any major dock.
