For those of you (99.9%) who don't check mtasa-blue googlecode daily, you won't know that lightweight synchronization has been added to MTA SA 1.2 this means that the bandwidth usage of the server will be significantly reduced to the point where we may be able to peak 400 players and start getting lag rather than at 300.
This beta test is very important as it will ensure the stability of lightweight sync and therefore attendance at this beta test will be mandatory, the main server will be closed down for a few hours while the test takes place. You will be able to play as normal during that time but buying/selling/using pockets of houses will be disabled as it is not synced with the main server, other things like vehicles and money are however.

You can see if a player is out of your close sync range because their blip will only update every 1.5 seconds rather than a lot faster when they're close by.
I did a test today with 4 players who were out of close sync range. MTA SA 1.1 used an average of 139.7 bytes/sec. MTA SA 1.2 used an average of 50.7 bytes/sec which is a saving of 63.7%. Of course we won't be using 63.7% less bandwidth in all, but a large part of our bandwidth usage is caused by syncing distant players and vehicles so there will be a good saving.
